Silk applique thangka created by Urgyen Sonam

Silk thangka created especially for you!

With commissioned work I discuss the different aspects of the thangka to create an individualised plan regarding the size, colours, and additional details. I show examples of previous artworks to assist the design.

All materials used are silk, brocade and gold thread. The materials are hand loomed in Varanasi, India by traditional craftsman who have been trading in silks with Tibetans for generations.

I always purchase the best possible quality. One metre of material can cost up to $180.

Each thangka is created to the highest quality and skill with different sizes and degrees of intricacies. At the initial discussion a time frame is estimated.

The price of my thangkas is dependent upon the materials and the amount of work involved.

On average a single thangka will take 1 - 3 months of full time work. Saying that, I have spent more than one year on a large and very detailed thangka for a Monastery.

An average sized thangka may cost between $1000 and $6000. Extra large or intricately detailed thangkas maybe priced higher..  Smaller pieces such as a Lotus or Mantra can be completed within 2 weeks and cost approximately$300-$1000.

I offer payment plans to be discussed individually.

Discounts may be offered
for a series of thangkas and for monasteries and monastic sangha.
